2.2. Developing the Schedule

Scenario Continuation

With the project charter, stakeholder register, and WBS now complete, the groundwork for the paint booth project has been laid. Now, it is time to develop the project schedule.

Your next challenge is to visualize the project as a step-by-step roadmap, using a Gantt Chart. To do this, you'll need to gather the following information:

  • The required tasks and key milestones
  • The duration of each task
  • The dependencies between tasks

Fortunately, you’re not starting from scratch. Drawing on his past experience with a previous paint booth installation, the Plant Manager has provided a memo with a detailed breakdown of tasks, durations, and dependencies.

Gantt Chart

A Gantt Chart is a visual timeline that shows each project task, how long it will take, and how it connects to other tasks. It helps teams see which activities can run in parallel, which must wait, and where potential delays could affect the overall project.

Objective

Create a Gantt Chart that:

  • Shows all the required steps, with task durations, dependencies, and milestones
  • Shows the critical path
Tip: Gantt Charts can easily be made on Smartsheet.com, which you can access on a 30-day free trial. You will also need to activate dependencies in Smartsheet to accurately build the Gantt Chart for this project.
